Getting black shirts black...

I have 4 or 5 black shirts (various t-styles) that I bought (or my mom bought for me) last year... And they are no longer as dark as they were when they were bought... I'm thinking of buying some black dye at the store & seeing if I can make them look "almost new" again... I wonder if that would work, or if it would ruin the shirts...
