LONDON -- Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. said Tuesday that it will open its first European store in October at Harrods, the department store in west London.
The company, based in Winston-Salem, N.C., announced in November that it planned to open 25 stores in Britain and Ireland over the next five years in a partnership with Chesire and Kent Ltd. and Donald Henshall forming Krispy Kreme UK Ltd. Henshall was previously Krispy Kreme's president of international development.
The outlet will have Krispy Kreme's trademark "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign, which lights up when fresh doughnuts are being made. It will also have its own access to the street, allowing it to serve doughnuts early in the morning, before the department store opens.
